Pet Ability Calculator
Here’s a question almost every Grow a Garden player runs into eventually: two players each have a Dragonfly. One is freshly hatched at 4kg with no mutation. The other is a matured 38kg Dragonfly carrying a Gold mutation. Same pet name, same Divine rarity but their actual trade value isn’t close. Run both through the formula below and the gap comes out to roughly 17x. That gap is the entire reason a rarity label alone never tells you what a pet is worth.
If you’ve ever looked at your own pet inventory and genuinely couldn’t tell whether a pet was worth keeping, trading, or selling, this guide walks through exactly how that value gets calculated, using the Dragonfly comparison above as a worked example. You can run the same numbers on your own pets using the live tool here: Pet Ability Calculator.

Why Two “Identical” Pets Are Rarely Worth the Same
A pet’s listed rarity tells you almost nothing about its actual trade value on its own. Two Legendary pets of the same species can differ wildly in value depending on three things: how much they weigh, how old they are, and whether a mutation has been applied. Rarity sets the ceiling; weight, age, and mutation decide where a specific pet actually lands underneath that ceiling.
This matters in practice. If someone offers you a trade and just says “it’s a Dragonfly,” that tells you almost nothing. The questions that actually matter are: how heavy is it, what age, and does it carry a mutation.
Worked Example: One Dragonfly, Two Outcomes
Dragonfly is a Divine-rarity pet with a base value of roughly 400,000 Sheckles, a natural weight range of about 2.5kg to 45kg, and an ability that turns a random crop Gold (a 20x value multiplier) roughly every five minutes. Here’s how the same pet plays out at two different points in its life.
Outcome A — freshly hatched, no mutation: A Dragonfly sitting near the bottom of its weight range, say 4kg, with no mutation applied, comes out close to its base value with only a small weight bump on top. In the calculator, that’s roughly 460,000 Sheckles.
Outcome B — matured, Gold mutation: The same species at 38kg (near the top of its range) with the Gold mutation (20x multiplier) applied produces a dramatically different number into the millions of Sheckles. The weight alone adds over 100% to the base value, and the Gold mutation then multiplies that entire adjusted figure by 20.
Same pet name, same rarity tier, completely different trade value. This is the gap a flat rarity-based price guide will never show you, and it’s exactly what the calculator is built to surface.
How the Calculation Actually Works
The formula behind the tool is straightforward, and being upfront about it is part of why we built it the way we did:
Final Value = Base Value × Weight Multiplier × Age Multiplier × (1 + Size Bonus) × Mutation Multiplier
Each piece does a specific job:
Weight is the biggest swing factor. As a pet ages it gets heavier, and a heavier pet activates its ability more efficiently shorter cooldowns, better odds, larger effect sizes. The calculator scales this based on where a pet’s current weight sits inside its own natural min-to-max range, so a near-max-weight pet gets close to the full weight bonus.
Age (on the game’s 1–125 scale) moves alongside weight but isn’t identical to it. Two pets can hit similar power levels through different paths a young pet boosted by hatching conditions, or an older pet that grew more slowly. The Pet Ability Calculator accounts for both independently.
Size boost is a flat tag applied at hatching: Small adds 10%, Medium adds 20%, Large adds 30%. It’s a smaller factor than weight or mutation but it’s free value that’s easy to forget about when eyeballing a trade.
Mutation is the multiplier that changes everything. A few reference points, cross-checked against current community data:
- Wet, Chilled — roughly 2x
- Pollinated — roughly 3x
- Bloom — roughly 4x
- Aromatic — roughly 5x
- Fortune, Frozen — roughly 10x
- Gold — roughly 20x
- Rainbow — roughly 50x
- Disco — roughly 125x, currently the rarest mutation in general circulation
The jump between a 4x and a 10x mutation is often a bigger value swing than moving up an entire rarity tier. This is the part of a trade most people eyeball and get wrong.
Using the Pet Ability Calculator Before a Trade
The practical workflow, using the Dragonfly example above as a template:
- Find the pet by name or filter by rarity
- Enter its current weight in kg (check the pet’s profile in-game if you’re not sure)
- Enter its age, if known
- Select its size tag if it was hatched with one
- Select the active mutation, if any
- Read the final estimated value at the bottom
Run both sides of a trade through the same five steps before agreeing to anything. It takes under a minute and it’s the difference between trading evenly and giving away a 38kg Gold Dragonfly for the price of a 4kg unmutated one.
A Note on Where These Numbers Come From
The base values, weight ranges, and mutation multipliers in this calculator are maintained against publicly available community data, primarily the Grow a Garden Fandom Wiki and active trading community references, and are updated as the game changes. They’re reference estimates, not official developer-published numbers Grow a Garden doesn’t publish exact Sheckle values itself, so every calculator in this space, including ours, is working from observed trade data. Actual outcomes will vary with player demand at the time of trade.
If you spot a pet with outdated numbers or one that’s missing entirely from the database, that’s expected we’re actively expanding the pet list and would rather be transparent about current coverage than pretend the dataset is complete.
FAQs
Is this built for Grow a Garden specifically, or is it a generic calculator?
It’s built specifically for the Roblox title Grow a Garden, using that game’s rarity tiers, mutation list, and pet abilities.
Does it cover every pet in the game?
Not yet the database is actively growing. If a pet isn’t listed, check back, or let us know and we’ll prioritize adding it.
Are the final values guaranteed trade prices?
No. They’re estimates built from the same formula the in-game systems use (weight, age, size, mutation), meant to give you a realistic starting point, not a guaranteed sale price.
Why did my Dragonfly come out lower than the example above?
Check its weight and mutation first those two factors alone explain almost all of the swing in the worked example. A lighter, unmutated pet will land much closer to base value than a matured, mutated one.
